New title insurance rates went into effect on March 1, 2012. The new rates include a $15.00 commitment fee, a $25.00 simultaneous issue fee and a $20.00 fee for each of the following residential endorsements: ALTA Endorsements 5-06, 8.1-06 and 9-06.

We support the prevailing North Carolina attorney closing system and are against the idea of non-attorney “closing shops”. Although this bill would not outlaw closing shops, requiring them to pay the interest earned on closing funds to IOLTA and cracking down on the unauthorized practice of law are steps in the right direction.
